53rd IMF-JC Central Committee Meeting Held 2011 Spring Offensive Policy Determined Special Report on the Unification of the 3 Manufacturing GUFs |

The IMF-JC held its 53rd Central Committee meeting on December 7, 2010 from 2:30 p.m. at the Dai-ichi Hotel Tokyo in Shimbashi, Tokyo. The participants deliberated the "2011 Spring Offensive Drive," the policy for the Spring Offensive, and adopted it in its original draft form. The meeting's host, Assistant General Secretary Masahiro Nogi, opened the meeting, after which Mr. Saito, head of the Qualification Examination Committee, reported the attendance of 133 of the 138 Central Committee members along with 25 observers. Mr. Nogi then declared that the Discussion Committee had been established.

1.Moderator and Guest Remarks ◆President Nishihara's Remarks To start the meeting, President Nishihara, representing the IMF-JC, gave an impassioned address that focused on the philosophy behind the IMF-JC’s approach toward the 2011 Spring Offensive. ◆RENGO General Secretary Nagumo's Remarks Attending as a guest was RENGO General Secretary Hiroyuki Nagumo, who addressed the meeting on the philosophy behind his approach toward the RENGO 2011 Spring Struggle for a Better Life and his expectations from the IMF-JC. ◆IMF Assistant General Secretary Hiroshi Kamada's Remarks From the IMF Head Office abroad, IMF Assistant General Secretary Hiroshi Kamada attended and addressed the meeting. Mr. Kamada spoke on the current status and issues regarding the unification of the three GUFs (global union federations), and as he will be retiring from the IMF at the end of this year, he looked back on 35 years with the IMF head office and thanked the IMF-JC for its cooperation. After this, President Nishihara presented Mr. Kamada with a certificate of appreciation. 2.Confirming the Items for Reporting Based on the direction of President Nishihara, the discussion proceedings were announced by Mr. Ichinowatari, the head of the discussion steering committee, after which discussions began. ◆General Progress Report In the items for reporting, Assistant General Secretary Taichi Namekawa gave a general progress report. Afterward, Mr. Konishi, a Central Committee member (from the Japan Federation of Basic Industry Workers' Unions) gave opinions on issues regarding the environment, to which President Nishihara offered responses. ◆Special Report: “Unification of the 3 Manufacturing GUFs” Next, General Secretary Hideyuki Wakamatsu reported on the issues regarding the unification of the three GUFs. 3.Matters for Deliberation ◆Deliberating and Determining the 2011 Spring Offensive Policy In the matters for deliberation, General Secretary Wakamatsu proposed the “2011 Spring Offensive Drive,” the policy for the Spring Offensive. Five sector-based unions in favor of the draft offered opinions and requests, and after the Head Office's replies, the policy was adopted in its original draft form with unanimous applause. ●IMF General Secretary Kamada Appreciation Party Following the Central Committee meeting, the three top-ranking officials, the assistant general secretaries, executive committee members, and auditors held a party in the hotel together with IMF-JC advisors and former officers in honor of IMF General Secretary Kamada, recognizing his 35 years of hard work with the IMF Head Office. |
